It’s a feature that stashes money every day that it’s sunny in your area.

Every morning, Stash checks the weather in your area. If it’s sunny, you stash money. You can choose to stash R5, R10, R20 or maximum temperature of that day (in Rands).

Before 1pm each day, you can stop Sunny Money from getting stashed on a sunny day.

You can also set a monthly limit to the amount that gets stashed.

It requires access to your device’s location to work. When you activate the feature, Stash asks for your permission.

We get our weather data from Open Weather Map. When they describe that day’s weather as either ‘Clear Sky’ or ‘Few Clouds’, then you’ll stash.

It’s a feature that stashes money when it’s ‘safe to save’. Every day, Stash works out whether money is safe to save by comparing your spending behaviour this month to last month. If you’ve spent less money this month than you did last month, you’ll stash R5.

It uses the same data as the rest of the app. It collects data for a month to establish your spending patterns. The longer you have a Stash, the smarter Smart Deposits becomes.

Yes. If you want to change your card, then disconnect the one you used before, and take a photo of the new card.

30 hours, at most. At the 1pm each day, your spare change from the past 24 hours get tallied up and the money is taken from your bank account. It’s invested at 8pm every day that the stock market is open. If your round up is R0.01, it’ll still get stashed. Every cent matters.

None. As long as Stash is your only tax-free savings account you won’t pay any capital gains tax, dividends tax or tax on your interest. If you have another tax-free savings account, make sure you don’t invest more than R30 000 between your Stash and other tax-free savings accounts or else you’ll pay a penalty to SARS. In May, we’ll send you a tax certificate (it’s nothing special really), so that you can tell the tax man about your Stash.

You get a tax-free savings allowance of R30 000 from 1 March to 28 February each year and R500 000 for the rest of your life. The key thing to consider is that whatever you cash out is irreplaceable. So, if you cash out R30 000, your tax-free allowance would be R470 000, i.e. you could only contribute R470 000 to a tax-free savings account for the rest of your life.
